Youth Umpiring Program

Requirements
Candidates for the youth umpire program must be willing to meet the following requirements:

  1. Youths age 12-17 are eligible to be paid for umpiring after attending our mandatory training sessions.
  2. Returning or otherwise demonstrably experienced umpires between the ages of 18 and 22 who are still students may also be eligible for our paid program at the league's discretion.
  3. Youth umpires can only umpire games involving players younger than themselves.

You must be at least 12 as of August 30, 2023 to be eligible to be an umpire.  Adults of all ages are welcome to umpire and participate in our umpiring training program as volunteers.

Benefits
Youth umpires are paid at least $50 per game.  Umpires who develop through the SFLL program and gain additional experience can earn up to $70 per game, plus additional "bonus" amounts for umpiring evening mid-week games at Treasure Island.  The program is an excellent way to develop leadership, responsibility, and confidence. Umpires who show commitment and dedication may be eligible for letters of recommendation.

SPRING 2024 UMPIRE TRAINING SESSIONS

SFLL will be hosting three outdoor umpire training sessions for youth and adults at Fort Scott Field for new umpires and any returning umpires who would like to brush up on their skills.  Any new umpire who wants to be assigned games for the Spring Season must attend one of these three clinics.

These outdoor sessions will be held at Fort Scott Field in the Presidio (Ralston Avenue, near Lincoln Boulevard) on various weekends in February 2024 (schedule to be announced in January 2024).

If you are interested in umpiring, please email us at [email protected].
