SES is the opportunity for our coaches to evaluate your child’s baseball skills, to help place them on a team that is safe and challenging. SES is NOT a “tryout,” and there are no “cuts.” We do sometimes move kids up or down a division based on their SES. If your child is under consideration for a division change, you will be contacted by your Player Agent shortly after SES.
WHY DO WE DO THIS
In SFLL, we draft new teams every season. This is one of the core principles of our League, and the primary goal is to achieve parity across teams: we believe kids learn the most through close, challenging games between evenly-matched teams. (Not to mention, the “nail biter” games that are so common in SFLL are BIG FUN for parents to watch!) We also find SFLL kids develop long-lasting friendships with kids from all around the city.
IS SES MANDATORY
Yes!! Every player's SES attendance is REQUIRED by National Little League. EVERY PLAYER MUST ATTEND AN EVALUATION SESSION TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PLAY LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL. SFLL is dedicated to ensuring your child has an awesome experience at SES.
WHAT IF MY KID IS WAITLISTED
Please attend SES. We cannot guarantee it, but we will do our best to place every kid. In the meantime, ALL waitlisted kids will be assigned SES times and evaluated. Please do not miss your SES--waitlisted kids who fail to attend SES cannot be placed on a team.
HOW LONG WILL SES TAKE
Total time: 90 minutes. Players and parents should arrive with their players shortly before your SES time and check in with our registration desk, then wait together for your SES session to start. During the SES, SFLL staff will work players through warmups, followed by 55 min. of hitting, pitching, and fielding. Parents should please stay in the waiting area during SES for a parent orientation with your Player Agent, even if you are a returning family. Once kids have finished all their drills, they will be dismissed one-by-one. Please be ready to pick up kids promptly at the end of your SES, so coaches can shift to a new group of players.
WHAT IF I CAN’T MAKE THE SES
We know family plans can be complicated—league volunteers are also parents! We respectfully ask you to make it to your assigned SES time: it’s very important for your player to attend SES on their assigned day so all the coaches in their division can familiarize themselves with their ability and skill level. Schedule changes also put more stress on our all-volunteer league officials (again, we’re parents too!) If, however, you have an unavoidable conflict or hardship, please contact your division’s
Player Agent ASAP to request a change.
