The San Francisco girls 10U softball team won the Marin Girls All-Star tournament hosted in San Rafael this past weekend. This is the first time that a San Francisco team has ever won the All-Star tournament so it is fair to say the girls were super excited.
It was a complete team effort as contributions were made up and down the SF line up. It is not an under statement to say that all 14 girls bought into the team concept and made important contributions.
There was nothing flukey about the victory as the team went undefeated with a final record of 6-0. The SF team beat traditionally strong Marin softball teams Novato and Tiburon two times each!
Leena Feeley was a workhorse for SF pitching all but 3 innings of the tournament. Naomi Van Zandt was superb behind the plate not allowing a single runner to reach first base on a dropped third strike while catching all but one inning. Riley Burnett, Corey Lemmer, Lucy Maes, and Arden Walsh were spectacular in the infield throwing out batter after batter and having only 2 errors as a group.
Corey Lemmer and Arden Walsh repeatedly drove in runs and each hit big home runs. (Two for Arden!) But the story of the weekend was the strong hitting throughout the line up as every girl had at least one hit and the offense powered the team to two wins by mercy rule on the championship day!
It was a wonderful weekend for the girls and I am sure they look forward to going back next year.
