Parents/Players: Please call your coach for the most up to date information about your game.
If there is standing water on the field or the field is clearly saturated, please do not use it.
Do not attempt to remove puddles on ball diamonds by lifting water and putting it on to the grass. You will damage the grass since the water also has dirt in it.
The protocol is as follows.
1. Decisions are to be made first by the two coaches who are playing on these fields. The two criteria are player safety and damage to the field. Coaches who play when they should not will find their games swapped to other fields.
2. Coaches can decide to cancel their game in advance without going out to the field. However, they must phone the umpire to relay their decision (umpires names and phone numbers can be found on the umpire page of the SFLL website).
3. If the coaches agree to show up for a game, then it is the umpires' decision whether or not the game will be played. If there is no umpire, the coaches must confer and decide. There have been instances when coaches/parents have put pressure on umpires regarding this decision, and this is just as inappropriate as arguing a call and will result in the same disciplinary consequences. If the field is unsafe, the game should not be played. This may be hard to do with parents and players all waiting to play, but safety is the first concern.

1. If there is no answer or no message, you should use your judgment unless the field is marked closed or a field director tells you it is closed. If the red light on the shed at the south end is on, that means the field is closed.
2. If it has been raining and there is no information on the hotline, coaches can decide to cancel their game in advance without going out to the field. However, they must phone the umpire to relay their decision (umpires names and phone numbers can be found on the umpire page of the website).

This is a turf field with a dirt mound and batting circle. The protocol is as follows:
1. Decisions are to be made first by the two coaches who are playing on these fields. The two criteria are player safety and damage to the field. If mound and batter's box are too wet to play then you have to call off the game. If coaches deem those areas safe to play, then once coaches confirm the turf areas are safe to play, the game can begin. Coaches who play when they should not will find their games swapped to other fields.

Latest information on SF Rec & Park field closures due to rain
Permits and Reservations will post notices as soon as they learn that a field has been closed due to weather or other conditions. Hopefully, this will reduce the back up of phone calls. If it has rained recently and we have learned fields will be open, we will also post it here to reduce the number of phone calls.
