Opening Day Parade and Ceremony

Opening Day is a fun event as families from the entire league come together as a community to kick-off the new season!  This year’s event includes a team photos, a parade for all teams in over 85 decorated parade vehicles, a short ceremony, and a community picnic. Players get to know their new coaches and teammates while decorating their parade “float" and show their team spirit in the parade. After the ceremony, the picnic takes place on the Civil War Parade Grounds with good eats from local food trucks.

OPENING DAY (SUMMARY) SCHEDULE:

SATURDAY, MARCH 3RD

 7:30 AM     BEGIN PLAYER DROP OFF & TEAM PHOTOS
 7:45 AM     TEAMS DECORATE PARADE VEHICLES
10:00 AM    VEHICLES DEPART FOR PARADE
10:30 AM   PARADE VEHICLES FINISH AT THE PRESIDIO
11:15 AM   CEREMONY & FIRST PITCH
12:45 PM   COMMUNITY PICNIC & GEAR SWAP
1:30 PM      CLEAN UP
2:00 PM      EVENT WRAPS UP

Morning Instructions for Player Drop-Off:

  • Parade leaves from the Presidio Main Parade Grounds at 10am sharp!
  • Players need to be in uniform at the designated time for his/her division.  See the player drop-off schedule and locations below:

Team Drop-off Schedule:

7:30 am     All Softball divisions
7:45 am     AAA
8:00 am     AA and Rookie
8:15 am     Majors  
8:30 am     Upper Farm and Challenger
8:45 am     Lower Farm
9:30 am     Juniors

  • Player drive-through drop-off on Anza Street. The Anza Parking lot is reserved for parade vehicles, do not pull into the Anza Parking lot to drop off your players(s) or park in the lot.
  • Players will be escorted by parent volunteers to where their coach and teammates will decorate their team’s parade vehicle.  Team photos will also be taken before the parade begins.
  • Watch the parade from one of many good viewing spots inside the Presidio or in the nearby Marina neighborhood (a number of coffee places will be open!)
  • After the parade, families meet-up at the Presidio Civil War Parade Grounds for the ceremony and picnic

 

NEW PARADE ROUTE

Route for the 2.8-mile parade (estimated 30-minute drive)

  1. Depart from north end of the Presidio Parade Ground Parking Lot.
  2. Head northeast on Anza Ave towards Lincoln Blvd.
  3. Turn right onto Lincoln Blvd. (Stay in the left lane.)
  4. Turn left onto Letterman Dr.
  5. Turn left onto Lombard St.
  6. Turn right onto Lyon St.
  7. Turn left onto Greenwich St.
  8. Turn left onto Steiner St.
  9. Turn left onto Chestnut St.
  10. Turn left onto Lyon St.
  11. Turn right onto Lombard St.
  12. Turn right onto Letterman Dr.
  13. Turn right onto Lincoln Blvd.
  14. Turn left onto Anza
  15. Return to the Parade Ground Parking Lot

New Location for Ceremony: 11:15 - 11:45 am
Parade returns to the Presidio between 10:30 - 11:00 am (parade vehicles will park at the Anza parking lot).
Players stay with their team/coaches and walk together to the Presidio Civil War Parade Grounds for the Opening Day Ceremony (the lawn area near the intersection of Graham & Owens Streets).

The ceremony will take place on the lawn between Graham and Keyes Streets. Teams will sit together on the outlined baseball “diamond”. Families will sit around the perimeter of the “field”.  Families should bring chairs or blankets to sit on.

COMMUNITY PICNIC:
11:45 am - 2:00 pm
Picnic is open to the public
(Civil War Parade Grounds - intersection of Graham and Owens Streets)

CONCESSIONS:
Thanks to the partnership with SOMA Streat Food Park - five of San Francisco’s favorite food truck vendors will be setup on Keyes Street with a variety of food options for purchase:

Limon Rotisserie: Latin American, Peruvian, Tapas, small plates
Subs On Hubs: New York Style Gourmet Subs & Greek Gyros
Mozzeria Pizzeria: Fresh wood burning oven Neapolitan pizzas & small plates
Judies Tacos Loco: Tacos, burritos, quesadillas
Batter Up: Sweet and savory waffles & waffle sandwiches

Little League Gear Swap Pop-Up:
San Francisco Little League will be hosting our first “Gear Swap”. Bring gently used, outgrown baseball and softball gear, equipment, and clothes.  More details to come!

Water Station:  A water station to fill water bottles will be located on Owens Street near the restrooms.

Restrooms: Portable restrooms will be located on Owens Street.
