A dominating pitching performance coupled with a team effort on offense and in the dugout led to an important bounce-back win for the squad.

Following our previous game's chaos, the Juniors All Stars spent time at our weekly classroom practice to recommit to our team mission, and identify changes in our process to help us be more focused, supportive, and respectful during our games, from start to finish. Those changes were in full effect on Wednesday evening at our "home turf" of Paul Goode where we hosted San Rafael.

Aidan M got the start for City and fired a scoreless top of the first. A hard-throwing lefty was on the mound for San Rafael, but SF remained undeterred. After a Miles M single & Jaheim walk, we had runners at 2nd & 3rd with 2 outs. Miles H drove a hard grounder up the middle and beat the throw to first, while two runs came around to score and put SF up 2-0 early.

The 2nd and 3rd innings for both teams were quiet, though SF had a few hard shots that just happened to find defenders (still QABs!). San Rafael brought a new pitcher in for the bottom of the 4th, and after walking the bases full, Caiden ripped a single up the middle to score two and make it 4-0 SF. Michael followed with a line drive shot to the outfield to add one more and make it 5-0 SF.

SR threatened in its half of the 5th following two defensive miscues by SF, but Aidan worked his way out of it with two big strikeouts to the heart of the SR order, and no damage done. City picked up where we left off in the prior inning, loading the bases and scoring on a wild pitch, then Caiden again blasted hit to score 7th run. Michael then worked a walk to bring in our 8th run.

Aidan M shut down SR 1-2-3 in the top of the 6th, and SF came to bat eager to end it early. A walk by Aidan K & a HBP for Aidan M put two runners on with two outs. Jahiem, running for Aidan K, stole home to score our 9th run. Alex drove the second pitch deep into right-center for a walk-off by mercy rule, 10-0.

While headlined by Aidan M on the mound with a 6-inning complete game, 7 strikeouts, 2 walks, and 2 hits -- this was a team performance and win, one that showed us what we are capable of when we can control our focus and performance, and not let distractions get in the way. After the game the players each suggested two things  - one we can "Build On" and one we can "Work On" to further our pursuit of excellence, of finding out how close we can come to our potential, and of fulfilling our team mission.

While we are now assured of advancing out of pool play, we still have one pool play game to go, against the reigning champions West Marin, who have yet to be defeated in pool play. We are looking forward to the challenge this coming Sunday 2pm in Terra Linda at Vallecito field.
