Rookies Spring 2008 Tournament Schedule-revised 5/22
The tournament structure is a modified double elimination tournament. Teams will be seeded based on order of regular season finish (determined by winning percentage). The 6 American League teams (A's, Angels, Mariners, Orioles, Rangers, and Red Sox will be placed in the American League Division and the 6 National League Teams (Astros, Cards, Cubs, Giants, Pirates and Rockies) will be placed in the National League Division. If there is a tie, the team with the best head-to-head record will receive the higher seed. If that is not conclusive, then a coin flip will determine. This is a "modified" double elimination because the winner in the Championship Game is the winner regardless of whether they get there from the winner or losers bracket. The schedule is listed below.
Throughout the tournament, the rules we have for the regular season will apply except that a pitcher may pitch 3 innings in a game. In addition, all pitching is governed by the pitch count rules in the rule book, and will be strictly enforced at interim pitch levels. Teams must have at least 9 players to play a game and there will be no replacement players. There will be no time limit on games except for darkness and at Ft. Scott where the field is no longer available. Games that are terminated due to darkness/field unavailablity that have completed 4 innings will be official games. It is solely the umpire’s decision when it is too dark to play. However, coaches and umpires can agree on a designated time to terminate play due to darkness in advance.
In any game, the home team will be the team with the higher seed. Rain contingency plans in general are to play rained out games the next day. If rain materializes, a detailed email with all tournament schedule adjustments will be sent to all coaches. Any suspended game will be restarted the next day 30 minutes preceding the scheduled game start time of another game.
Steve Werth (need cell) will serve as Tournament Director with authority to resolve all issues.
