SFLL OVERVIEW San Francisco Little League (SFLL) is a non-profit, all-volunteer program open to any child of appropriate age living in the City of San Francisco. We are chartered by the national Little League organization, but operate as a fully autonomous local program. Our foremost objective is to provide a positive baseball/softball and personal development experience for our players. We expect our players to receive an intensive baseball/softball experience with sound training that will help them develop substantially as players. We also expect that they will make friends, learn to be good teammates, and, most importantly, to have fun. SFLL was restarted in the City in 1996 after a long period of inactivity. We are now serving about 25% of the baseball/softball playing youth in the City. Our players come from all parts of San Francisco with over 200 schools and all major zip codes represented in our player base last season. SFLL offers a spring and a fall program. Spring registration opens in November and closes as early as December 31 depending on division. Fall registration is open in May/June. Players are assigned to Divisions based on age and skill level. Look at an overview of the different spring divisions. The spring season is more time intensive and structured than the fall season. All Divisions play one game per week. Minor Divisions play two games some weeks. Major, Junior, Senior and Big League Divisions play two games per week. Games can be any day of the week. Practices during the season are at the discretion of the coaches—most teams practice once a week, at least for the early part of the season. There are post-season tournaments, league champion tournaments and All-Star tournaments. Pre-season activities (late February to mid March) include a full slate of player development clinics and a more intensive period of practice. The season opens on March 11 with the SF Little League Opening Day Parade. The fall season (Fall Ball) is less structured and more developmental. Games are on Sundays only and most teams do not practice. The purpose is to provide an additional opportunity for baseball-loving kids to play without demanding too much time from school, soccer or other activities. Fall Ball runs from early September to early November. The girls softball program, now with over 200 players, is entering its sixth year. Because of conflicts on Saturdays with girls’ basketball and soccer leagues, most softball games will be on weeknights or Sundays. Many of our players are new to softball. Players are organized into five levels of play so that each girl can play with girls of similar ability. Please spread the word about the availability of this program, the only spring softball program available to girls in the City. The Challenger program for kids with disabilities
is also entering its fifth year. These teams play other teams from surrounding
communities. Often one of the Major or Minor Division teams buddies
up with a Challenger team to provide support and assistance. Kids with
disabilities love to play baseball too and we hope you will pass the
word about this program along to interested parties. 2521 Judah| San Francisco, CA 94122 | (415) 263-0510 (voice mailbox) | Email us |
