In the first game of SF Junior's Sectional Tournament, SF out hit Benicia 8-4, but coughed up 4 errors to their 2 and that was the real difference. Ben Kullavanijaya was the starter was about out of trouble when a miscue in the outfield led to the first run of the game. Benicia also plated a second runner in the first with a Texas leaguer down the left field line. In the second inning Benicia again was applying the pressure to SF when a lead off walk, a stolen base followed by a single led to the third run of the game of Benicia. Marc Heidohrn relieved Ben K. and the defense picked him up. SF got their next two outs at the plate as runners tried to score with the corners drawn in. The third out of the inning extended SFs streak of picking runners off to seven.
Despite three consecutive singles in their half of the second SF wasn't able to get a run home until the third. Eugene Bankston-Scott roped a triple to left center and scored on Gearld Reader's ground out to short. That sequence ended SF's scoring for the game, not that it lacked opportunities. Jack Gale, Jack Murphy and Jordan Wilson all went 2-3. SF left a total of eight runners on base, with six of them in scoring position.
Reader and Lincoln Chapman pitched the final three innings, two and one respectively.
Benicia ran better than us today, they got the key hit, and they fielded better than us today. They played our brand of baseball better than we did. We have another opportunity to redeem ourselves tomorrow and we'll be looking to new and familiar faces to help us bounce back.
